Kate was twenty-three, slim, blonde and very attractive. Her dream was to get a Ph.D. and she was having a real tough time staying focused. Up until now, Kate had only been validated for her physical appearance and never for her intelligence. Her low self-esteem attracted friends who supported her negative beliefs. They partied a great deal and Kate began abusing drugs and alcohol regularly. This pattern eventually got her arrested and placed on probation for many months.
